The story that shaped us, the identity that guides us, and the founder behind every partnership.
RootED Path Consulting was born from a simple but powerful observation: childhood was quietly changing.
Across schools and communities, expectations for young children continued to rise, yet child development itself had not accelerated. Children were being asked to do more, sooner — often before they were developmentally ready. In the pursuit of academic achievement, many schools felt increasing pressure to accelerate learning, and little by little, play, curiosity, and wonder began to take a back seat.
At RootED Path, we believe those goals do not have to compete.
Children can experience a joyful childhood while developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to thrive. In fact, we believe those experiences are inseparable. Play, relationships, exploration, and meaningful experiences are not distractions from learning — they are the very foundation of it.
RootED Path was created to help schools, educators, and families reclaim those foundations. Our work is rooted in the belief that honoring childhood is not about lowering expectations — it is about building the strong roots children need to flourish for a lifetime.
We also recognize that meaningful change isn't always easy.
Whether you're opening a new school, strengthening leadership, redesigning learning environments, or simply wondering where to begin, change can feel overwhelming. Sometimes what is needed isn't another program or curriculum — it's a trusted partner who brings fresh perspective, asks thoughtful questions, and helps uncover the path forward.
That's where RootED Path comes in.
We listen before we recommend. We observe before we design. We work alongside educators, leaders, and families to create solutions that reflect the unique values, strengths, and vision of each community we serve. Because lasting change doesn't happen to a school — it happens with the people who make it extraordinary.
We believe every child deserves to be seen, every educator deserves to feel supported, every family deserves to feel heard, and every school deserves the opportunity to build a culture where childhood is honored and meaningful learning can flourish.
Through reflective conversations, intentional leadership, thoughtfully designed environments, and meaningful professional learning, RootED Path helps schools and families create lasting, sustainable change — one conversation, one classroom, one relationship, and one decision at a time.
Because when we honor childhood, we don't just change classrooms — we change the experiences children carry with them for the rest of their lives.

The heart behind RootED Path™
Born from a deep love for childhood and a calling to support schools in slowing down, reflecting, and creating environments where both children and educators can thrive.
To partner with schools, educators, and families to honor childhood and transform early learning through reflective practice, meaningful relationships, and intentional environments.
A world where every child is seen, every educator is supported, and every learning community is rooted in respect, reflection, and purpose.
We walk alongside you with care and intention, offering thoughtful guidance, practical support, and a partnership rooted in trust.
RootED Path was founded by Mara Berger, an early childhood educator, educational leader, and mother of three, with more than twenty years of experience partnering with children, educators, families, and school communities.
Throughout her career, Mara has served in both classroom and leadership roles, helping build new schools from the ground up while also leading the transformation of established programs through thoughtful leadership, curriculum development, operational excellence, and intentional learning environments. Her work has always centered on one enduring belief: when we honor childhood, we create the conditions for lifelong learning.
Mara holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from the University of Vermont and a Master's Degree in School Building Leadership from New York University. These experiences, combined with two decades of work alongside children and educators, have shaped the philosophy that guides every RootED Path partnership.
"We must protect the integrity of early childhood."
For Mara, this means allowing children the time and space to truly be children — to embrace messy learning, follow their curiosities, explore meaningful questions, value their own ideas, and become active participants in their learning.
She believes that every child deserves to be seen as capable, every educator deserves thoughtful support, and every school has the opportunity to become a place where childhood is honored and practice is transformed.
Honoring childhood transforms practice.
